Bed Bugs In Your New Mattress? What You Should Do

Blog

Bed bugs will make their home anywhere, and they very well could have come directly to your home from the manufacturer where you purchased your new mattress. It is possible for bed bugs to be on all types of new furniture, including new bedding, pillows, and other items as well. If you have a new bed and new bed bugs to go with it, you need to do something immediately to help get rid of them. Bed bugs can quickly spread throughout your home and leave you with an infested house. Read on for information to help you get rid of these pests.

Set Traps

Set traps for the bed bugs along the bottom of your bed frame. Place the legs of the bed in a shallow bowl to catch the bed bugs and prevent them from getting up into your bed. If you don't have shallow bowls for your bed, you can purchase something online that helps get rid of bed bugs. You can also trap these pests by placing your new mattress in a protective mattress bag, and your box spring as well. It'll trap the bed bugs inside the mattress and prevent new bed bugs from getting into your bed.

Wash Everything

Wash all of your bedding and pillows in hot water, and then, dry them in hot water as well. If you can't wash something, such as a decorative pillow, you should place it in a plastic garbage bag for at least 24 hours and leave it outside of your home. Make sure it is tied up tightly to ensure the bed bugs die inside and don't just escape. Curtains, stuffed animals, and other things near your bed should also be washed or put into a plastic bag.

Vacuum Your Bed And Beneath Your Bed

Be sure to vacuum your bed and the carpet or flooring beneath your bed to get rid of any bed bugs that are still in your home, as they can migrate to other areas of your home from your bedroom. They can very quickly get to the other areas of your house and end up in other bedrooms, on your living room furniture, or on other furnishings. When you are finished vacuuming in your bedroom, make sure you empty the vacuum contents into a garbage can outside of your house, then seal the bag on the garbage to prevent them from coming back into your home.

If you have a new mattress and new bed bugs to go with it, hire a pest control company to help you get rid of this issue. These bugs can move quickly and your entire house could end up infested.
