Think You Have Termites? How To Get Them Out

Blog

If you have seen even one termite you need to take care of this problem before it becomes much worse. Termites can eat through wood and if you have enough of them this will cause a lot of structural damage to a home. This will result in expensive repairs to your home. Keep reading to learn how you can get termites, as well as tips on getting them out before damage happens.

Why You Get Termites

There are many things around your home that may attract termites. For example, if you have leaky plumbing pipes termites need water just like any other creature. They may set up a nest close to the pipes, so they have access to water any time they like.

If you have stacked up wood outside close to your home, they are attracted to this as well. This is especially true if the wood is not protected and often becomes damp after it rains. Inspect your home's foundation and if you find any cracks have these repaired. Termites can easily get through even tiny cracks. This is also important as some foundation cracks are dangerous to you and can cause a lot of damage to your home.

Anywhere where you may have high humidity can attract termites so make sure your home has good airflow. This is especially true in the crawlspace area as this may be an entry point for the termites. You can install an exhaust fan or a dehumidifier system in the crawlspace.

Get Termites Out

There are many ways you can get termites off your property. If you see only a few there are products that you can purchase to kill them. There are products made of orange oil, which is extracted from orange peels. This can act as a repellant to termites. Termites that touch the oil may also die. Because termites have to touch the oil to die if you have an infestation, you will also need to use other types of treatments to kill all the termites.

Contact a pest control company to kill the termites if you see a lot of them. They have baits they can use to do this or may use a dust termiticide. There are also liquid termiticides they can spray in different areas where you see termites. The pest control contractor will first determine the type of termite you have and then develop the best treatment plan.
