3 Important Pest-Control Tips For Mice

Blog

If you own a home, mice can be stressful pests to deal with. They can get into the smallest of spaces and wreak havoc inside your home. You can put a stop to these unwanted creatures, though, thanks to these pest-control tips.

Identify Possible Entry Points

So that mice don't keep getting into your home and potentially breeding with one another, you need to identify all possible entry points. This isn't hard if you know where to look. Mice prefer dark and quiet environments, so places like the attic and basement should be your first priority.

Look for possible openings in your foundation, even if they are small. You'd be amazed at the tight crevices that these rodents can access without any trouble. Other areas to inspect include the chimney, unsealed drainage pipes, holes in windows, and underneath the doors. If any of these areas look susceptible to mice, seal them up quickly using steel wool as a temporary solution.

Use Catch-and-Release Traps

Although mice are probably not welcome in your home, there's no need to cause them unnecessary harm if you can help it. Instead of using traps that kill, try to use catch-and-release traps. Once mice enter the trap, the doors will safely close behind them without causing harm. You can then relocate them to a place that's far away from your property.

For these catch-and-release traps to be effective, though, you need to bait them appropriately. Some of the best foods for attracting mice include peanut butter, freshly cooked hot dogs, honey, and jelly beans.

Hire a Mice Exterminator

If your rodent problem has spread into the dozens and possibly more, you need to hire a mice exterminator quickly. These professionals are more than capable of handling large mice populations safely without causing damage to your family, pets, and property.

They can identify the source of your infestation, as well as additional nesting sites you may have overlooked. A wide variety of eradication techniques for mice extermination can be employed as well, including the application of commercial chemicals and setting out traps made specifically for mice. After mice are terminated or removed from your property, the exterminator will provide tips on how you can prevent them from coming back.

Mice are creatures you never want to find in your house, but they can appear without warning. As long as you follow the correct identification, removal, and prevention steps, this pest's impact won't be as great.
