Automatically Atomizing Ants Avec An Armadillo: Natural Pest Control, Southern Style

Blog

People in the Southern half of the U.S. have very different ways of doing things, but some of those ways make complete sense when you think about it. Take natural pest control, for example. Ants, especially fire ants and wood ants, are major problems in the South. You do not want to get close to these ants because they bite, and the bites are as painful as the ants are relentless in biting you. Pest control needs a different approach for these insects here than it does in the North. If you ever want to try all-natural, Southern pest control, here is how you can do it.

Armadillos Are Awesome

Armadillos are native to parts of the South. They are part of the natural food chain down there, which stretches upward from ants and termites to armadillos and those that pray on these leathery-shelled animals. Some people try to tame armadillos and use them as natural pest control, a very effective means of doing so, since the armadillo is guaranteed a regular meal of ants and termites and people are rid of their pests.

You could also benefit from this natural pest control. If you have the money and resources, or have a friend who lives down south, you can request an armadillo for the purposes of pest control. The armadillo is carted up on a truck and turned loose on your ant hills or near your termite infestation. Within a few hours, your pest situation is eliminated, the nests and mounds destroyed, and the armadillo has a full belly. If you purchase your armadillo outright, you will need to overwinter him in a very warm pen. Otherwise, he gets back into his crate and goes back down south.

Repeat Visits

To avoid repeat visits, you could keep the armadillo for a few days, as long as the weather is hot and sunny and you can build it a pen around the food source. This keeps the armadillo safe, keeps it from wandering off, and when the "food source" is exhausted, you know the pest problem is fully resolved. Then the armadillo can be returned to its keeper.

Aardvarks and Anteaters Can Do the Job Too

Aardvarks and anteaters may also be used for this kind of work. However, it is a little more difficult to find someone with an aardvark or anteater, since they are not native to the U.S. If you do know someone with this exotic pet, you may be able to barter the animal's dietary needs for cash to rid yourself of your ant problem.

For big pest infestations that you can't seem to tackle, even with help, contact a pest control company.
